How to play Golf card game
Set up your layout
You and the computer receive six covered cards in two rows of three. Turn over any two of yours. You cannot inspect a covered card before replacing it.
Take a turn
- Draw the top stock card or take the face-up discard.
- Select one of your six cards to replace. The new card is placed face up and the old one becomes the discard.
- If you drew from the stock, you may discard that draw instead. A discard-pile pickup must be used.
The computer then makes its move. Starting players alternate between holes. If the stock empties, the discards are shuffled back into stock with the top discard left in place.
Count the points
| Card | Points |
|---|---|
| Ace | 1 |
| Two | −2 |
| 3–10 | Number on card |
| Jack / Queen | 10 |
| King | 0 |
| Equal ranks in a vertical column | 0 for both cards |
Finish nine holes
A hole ends immediately when either player has all six cards showing. Remaining cards are revealed. Add each hole to the scorecard; the lowest total after nine holes wins. Equal totals produce a tie.
A useful first decision
A face-up king usually improves a high card. A matching rank can be even better if it completes a zero-point column. Replacing a covered card is a risk because you do not know its value.
Questions at the table
What counts as a pair?
Two equal ranks in the same vertical column score zero. Cards beside each other do not cancel.
How do card values work?
Aces score 1, twos −2, kings 0, and jacks and queens 10. Other cards score their number.
When does a hole end?
As soon as either layout is entirely face up, both layouts are scored. There is no extra final turn at this table.
Can I discard the card I just took?
A stock draw may be discarded. A card taken from the discard pile must replace one of your six cards.
